Shadow Fiend vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

The lane between these two often feels like a duel of cooldowns. Windranger can feel untouchable with Windrun, completely dodging Shadow Fiend’s right-clicks and making it hard for him to commit. However, Windrun offers no protection from a full Shadowraze combo, which gives Shadow Fiend all the burst he needs to win a trade or secure a kill. The matchup often hinges on Shackleshot. A good shackle can cancel Requiem of Souls from a safe distance and set up an easy kill, but a missed one leaves Windranger exposed and vulnerable to being run down and deleted by SF's magical damage.

This tension carries into the mid-game. Shadow Fiend generally farms much faster, allowing him to hit key item timings like a Black King Bar sooner. With a BKB, he can shrug off Shackleshot and simply right-click Windranger down if she can't escape. Windranger’s game plan is to use her mobility and stun to find pickoffs before SF gets that strong, or to split the map and force reactions. The game often comes down to whether Shadow Fiend can leverage his farm advantage into successful teamfights before Windranger can pick his team apart.
