Night Stalker vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Catching a lone Shadow Shaman at night looks like an easy kill, but it's a classic bait. Shadow Shaman's instant Hex can completely turn a gank around, stopping Night Stalker in his tracks for a counter-kill. The matchup often comes down to who acts first. If Night Stalker gets close enough to land Crippling Fear before Shaman can react, the silence will usually secure the kill. But if Shaman has good positioning and vision, he can disable Night Stalker from a safe distance, making any aggression a huge risk. It’s a game of reflexes and who gets the initiation.

During the first night, Night Stalker typically holds the advantage, as Shadow Shaman won't have defensive items yet. A successful gank or two can set the tone for the whole game. As things progress, however, a simple Force Staff or Glimmer Cape can be enough for Shaman to survive the silence duration and get his own spells off. Later on, Night Stalker is forced to hunt for a perfect opening, while Shadow Shaman can play more defensively with his team, ready to use his lockdown to peel or drop Mass Serpent Ward to control the fight.
