Night Stalker vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Picking Night Stalker seems like a good way to shut down a farming carry, but the plan often falls apart against Spectre. Trying to burst her down with physical damage is a trap. A significant amount of that damage is reflected by Dispersion, so Night Stalker often ends up hurting himself and his allies as much as he hurts her. Even if he gets a good jump with Crippling Fear, Spectre can often survive the silence duration and then escape through trees or up cliffs with Spectral Dagger. She's much harder to pin down and kill than most other carries.

This dynamic means Night Stalker's key timings are much less effective. He wants to run around the map creating pressure at night, but his primary target is too durable to kill easily. Spectre, meanwhile, can completely turn the tables. Haunt allows her to jump on an isolated Night Stalker, punishing his roaming playstyle with Desolate. If Night Stalker can’t secure a big enough lead for his team during the mid-game, Spectre will eventually out-scale him and take over, making his early aggression feel pointless.
