Nyx Assassin vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down Nyx Assassin with Focus Fire often ends with Windranger stunning herself instead. Spiked Carapace reflects the damage and stun from one of those fast attacks, completely turning her ultimate against her. Even outside of that direct counter, Nyx makes her life difficult. Mana Burn is especially effective against an intelligence hero like Windranger, leaving her without enough mana for a crucial Shackleshot or a Windrun escape. The constant threat of a Vendetta gank forces her to play defensively from the very start of the game.

This pressure forces Windranger to play a very careful game. She needs constant Sentry Ward coverage to survive the laning stage and mid-game rotations from Nyx Assassin. During teamfights, she's faced with a tough choice: risk using Focus Fire and getting caught by Spiked Carapace, or hold her ultimate and lose a massive amount of her damage contribution. Nyx, on the other hand, can simply shadow her movements, waiting for the perfect moment to Impale her. He doesn't even need to kill her himself; simply existing on the map neuters a core part of Windranger's game plan.
