Ogre Magi vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Thinking Nether Ward will punish Ogre Magi for spamming is a common trap. While the initial spell cast does cost mana and trigger the ward's damage, any spells duplicated by Multicast are free and don't trigger it at all. This means Ogre Magi often gets his full burst potential without the corresponding penalty that other casters face. Furthermore, a simple Fireblast provides a reliable, low-cooldown stun that immediately cancels Pugna's Life Drain, shutting down his sustain and primary single-target threat from a safe distance.

This dynamic forces Pugna to play cautiously. Ogre Magi's naturally high health allows him to withstand Nether Blast and close the gap, where a lucky Multicast can lock Pugna down and kill him. Pugna's best course of action is to stay far back, pressure buildings, and use his ward to control space rather than to directly counter Ogre. If Ogre gets on top of him, Pugna is in a bind: using Decrepify to save himself from physical attacks only makes him take more damage from Ogre's spells.
