Ogre Magi vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Picking a support into Spectre often means finding one who can survive being hunted, which makes Ogre Magi a difficult choice. It's an unusual dynamic, because his abilities work so well *with* her. But against Spectre, Ogre’s spell damage gets partially returned by Dispersion, punishing him for using his kit. He also has to move around the map to place wards, which leaves him isolated and vulnerable. A solo Ogre is a perfect target for Desolate, which means his natural tankiness doesn't help him survive nearly as long as it should. His toolkit is simply better at enabling Spectre than it is at stopping her.

This problem gets worse as the game progresses. Once Spectre gets Haunt, Ogre Magi becomes a priority target. He has no real escape mechanism, and his single-target Fireblast isn't enough to reliably lock down the real Spectre among her illusions. This forces the Ogre to play defensively and stick with his team, limiting his ability to set up vision or ganks. Spectre can effectively neutralize one of the enemy's main controllers by forcing him into a passive role, creating the space her team needs to secure the map.
