Phantom Assassin vs Shadow Demon

How this matchup plays

Picking Shadow Demon into a Phantom Assassin is a risky call, since his core defensive spell fails to counter her. Trying to survive a jump, Shadow Demon will use Disruption on himself, but this only offers a brief delay. By the time he reappears, Phantom Assassin’s Phantom Strike is often available again, allowing her to re-engage immediately. With no other escape mechanism, he’s a sitting duck. This same timing issue is why they struggle as teammates; an allied Disruption can accidentally save an enemy from Phantom Assassin’s burst, ruining a kill attempt.

This dynamic forces the Shadow Demon player to stay incredibly far back in fights, which makes it hard for him to contribute his own spells effectively. Phantom Assassin’s game plan is straightforward: acquire a Black King Bar to negate Demonic Purge and then hunt the supports. The burden is on Shadow Demon's allies to provide constant vision and peels to keep him alive. Without that protection, he becomes an easy, high-priority target as soon as Phantom Assassin hits her mid-game timings.
