A Silencer pick is often a direct response to Phantom Assassin's teamfight presence. A well-timed Global Silence can stop PA from using Phantom Strike to initiate or escape, forcing an early BKB activation. This can waste precious seconds of its duration if she's not already on a target. For a hero so reliant on burst and mobility spells to secure kills, being silenced is a major disruption. Last Word also makes it risky for her to use spells to poke or close the distance.

The outcome of their fights usually depends on positioning. If Phantom Assassin can find and burst Silencer before a fight breaks out, his main tool is gone. But if Silencer plays far back, he can use his ultimate to save a teammate that PA dives.
