Phantom Assassin vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Laning against Viper is often a miserable experience for a melee carry. His constant magic damage over time completely ignores Phantom Assassin's evasion, making it very difficult for her to trade hits or secure farm. Later in the game, Viper's Nethertoxin is a massive threat, as the Break it applies disables Blur and her critical strike passive entirely. This leaves PA exposed and unable to burst targets as she normally would. Viper doesn't have to worry much about her evasion because his own damage is primarily magical.

The matchup tends to even out because Phantom Assassin has a clear solution. Her goal is to survive the early game and farm a Black King Bar. With spell immunity, much of Viper's control is nullified. She can use Phantom Strike to close the distance, and Viper's low mobility makes him a prime target if caught out. The outcome often depends on who initiates correctly. If PA can jump Viper with her BKB active, she can kill him quickly, but if Viper catches her first, he can kite her to death.
