Phoenix vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Pushing towers with Mass Serpent Ward becomes a difficult task when Phoenix is defending. The sustained area-of-effect damage from Fire Spirits and Sun Ray can clear the wards from a safe distance, stalling Shadow Shaman's objective pressure. This forces Shaman's team to commit much harder for a tower or find another way to advance their position on the map. Phoenix, in turn, can find it difficult to have a big impact when Rhasta is looking to lock down key heroes, creating a natural stalemate around map control.

The dynamic in fights depends entirely on who gets the jump. A well-timed Hex or Shackle can completely neutralize Phoenix, preventing Supernova and leaving the hero vulnerable. On the other hand, if Phoenix is able to cast Supernova in a chaotic fight, Shadow Shaman lacks the burst to destroy the egg on his own, and his stationary Serpent Wards are easily cleared by the pulsing damage. The matchup often boils down to which hero can disable the other's biggest spell first, making initiation and positioning the deciding factors.
