Phoenix vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a backline Sniper often comes down to gap close and control. Phoenix has the ideal tools for this. Icarus Dive lets him fly directly over defending tanks and supports to reach Sniper, ignoring the extreme range from Take Aim. Once on top of him, a full volley of Fire Spirits cripples Sniper's attack speed. This not only neuters his damage output but also makes it nearly impossible for him to destroy the Supernova egg on his own. A successful dive from Phoenix usually means Sniper is completely taken out of the fight.

On the other hand, a well-positioned Sniper can make that dive very difficult. His long range allows him to poke from outside Phoenix's effective initiation radius, forcing him to commit from a predictable angle. Smart placement of Shrapnel can provide vision of incoming ganks and slow the dive, giving Sniper time to reposition or for his team to peel. The duel really hinges on who gets the jump. If Phoenix is spotted early or misses his spirits, Sniper can often stand his ground and help burn down the egg from a safe distance.
