Primal Beast vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing Pulverize with Rubick feels like it should decide the game, but the reality is more complicated. While a stolen ultimate is obviously strong, Primal Beast's other spells are much less threatening in Rubick's hands. Uproar offers almost nothing to a fragile intelligence hero, and using a stolen Onslaught often means charging to an early death. This puts a lot of pressure on Rubick to steal the right spell at the right time. Primal Beast is also extremely mobile and can burst heroes down quickly, so Rubick might not even get the chance to cast Spell Steal before he's trampled and killed.

The matchup often comes down to positioning and initiation. Primal Beast wants to find Rubick before a big fight breaks out and delete him before he can become a factor. He'll use his charge to close the distance and can often kill Rubick within a single stun duration. Rubick's plan is the opposite: stay far back, use Telekinesis to create space or interrupt the charge, and wait for a clean opportunity to steal Pulverize after the Beast commits. Whoever gets the jump first usually has the upper hand, leading to a fairly balanced contest.
