Pudge vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Walking into the fog of war feels especially dangerous when a Pudge is missing. Rubick is a fragile hero, and a single Meat Hook landing at any point in the game is usually a death sentence. The entire dynamic, however, is flipped on its head by Spell Steal. Both Meat Hook and Dismember are incredible abilities for Rubick to take and use against Pudge’s own team. Pudge is forced to be careful with his spell usage, as a missed hook can instantly become a deadly counter-initiation tool in Rubick's hands, turning a potential pick-off into a disaster.

This tension defines the matchup from start to finish. In lane, Pudge threatens with Rot and hook pressure, but Rubick can use Telekinesis to create distance and disrupt channeling. In later teamfights, the duel continues. Pudge hunts for that perfect hook on a high-value target, while Rubick positions himself to either interrupt Dismember on an ally or steal the perfect spell to turn the fight. The game often comes down to which player has better positioning and faster reactions, not an inherent advantage in the heroes themselves.
