Pudge vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Catching Troll Warlord out of position is Pudge's entire goal. The full combo of a Meat Hook into Dismember provides the exact kind of lockdown needed to kill Troll before he can fight back. Troll Warlord has no innate escape and is very susceptible to being isolated and bursted down, especially in the early and mid-game. On the flip side, Pudge is a high-health, low-armor hero who wants to stand still to channel his ultimate. This makes him an ideal target for Troll to build up Fervor stacks and shred through his health bar.

The matchup often hinges on who initiates first and with what resources. A Pudge that successfully ganks Troll can create a huge gold and experience lead. However, once Troll Warlord gets a Black King Bar, he can often walk right at Pudge, ignore the magical burst from Rot, and win the direct fight. Pudge then needs to play around that BKB timing, either by kiting until it's over or by using Dismember to lock down Troll for his own carry. It becomes a game of positioning and cooldowns, where a single good hook or a well-timed BKB activation can decide the fight.
