How this matchup plays

Trading spells in the mid lane feels punishing for Pugna. His typical pattern of using Nether Blast to secure creeps and harass is directly challenged by Silencer's kit. Every cast can trigger Last Word or extend the duration of Arcane Curse, making trades inefficient. While Pugna’s Nether Ward is a threat to most spellcasters, Silencer can often dictate the initial moments of a fight with Global Silence before the Ward is a factor. Much of Silencer's damage also comes from Glaives of Wisdom, which don't trigger the Ward at all, letting him attack freely.

This dynamic gives Silencer an early advantage he can press throughout the game. Pugna struggles to find favorable exchanges and can fall behind. In teamfights, a reactive Global Silence is a reliable way to cancel Life Drain, denying Pugna critical healing or burst damage. For Pugna to succeed, his team needs to prioritize bursting Silencer, or he must play cautiously around cooldowns. The matchup isn't one-sided, as Pugna's ability to melt towers with Nether Blast is unaffected, and a poorly positioned Silencer team can still get wrecked by a good Nether Ward.
