How this matchup plays

Pushing down towers with Nether Blast feels a lot riskier when a Slardar is on the other team. Pugna is a fragile hero with no escape, and Slardar specializes in hunting targets like him. With Guardian Sprint and a Blink Dagger, Slardar can close the distance almost instantly. His Slithereen Crush provides a reliable stun that immediately cancels Life Drain, removing Pugna's main source of in-fight damage and survival. While Pugna can cast Decrepify on himself to avoid physical damage, Slardar's stun often lands before he has a chance to react, leaving him helpless.

This dynamic forces Pugna to play from extremely safe positions. Slardar will almost always look for Pugna first in a teamfight, using Corrosive Haze to keep vision on him and enable a quick kill. For Pugna to succeed, his team needs to provide excellent vision and be ready to counter-initiate on the Slardar. If Pugna can stay alive and undetected, his damage output is massive. However, Slardar's entire kit is designed to prevent exactly that, giving him a natural, if slight, upper hand in most engagements.
