Pugna vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Placing a Nether Ward near a teamfight forces Slark into a difficult choice. He relies on spamming Dark Pact and Pounce to be effective, but both abilities will trigger the ward, draining his health and mana at critical moments. A well-timed Decrepify can also leave him vulnerable, forcing him to use Dark Pact defensively. However, the matchup isn't one-sided. A prepared Slark can use his purge to instantly remove Decrepify, and his Pounce leash is a reliable way to interrupt Pugna’s Life Drain. This creates a tense standoff where both heroes are constantly baiting out the other’s key cooldowns.

The game often hinges on vision and positioning. If Slark can get a jump on an isolated Pugna, he can usually secure the kill before the ward or allied support can make a difference. Pugna, in contrast, wants to play with his team, using them as a frontline so he can safely place his Nether Ward and drain key targets from the back. It becomes a strategic battle: Slark tries to find pickoffs and avoid grouped-up fights, while Pugna’s team tries to force five-on-five engagements where his abilities can control the entire area and punish Slark's spell usage.
