Pugna vs Ursa

How this matchup plays

Picking a physical burst carry into the draft means looking for heroes who can stop you from attacking. Ursa wants to run at a single target and overwhelm them with Overpower, but Pugna’s Decrepify can save that target by making them immune to physical damage. This breaks Ursa's momentum, leaving him standing there while his window of opportunity closes. Pugna can then punish the failed gank with his own damage. This interaction is so fundamental that they often struggle on the same team, with Decrepify accidentally saving an enemy that Ursa is trying to finish off.

To get around this, Ursa is often forced to build a Black King Bar sooner than he might like. Without it, he has to play patiently, waiting for Pugna to use Decrepify on another hero before he can commit his own spells. Pugna plays to this by staying in the back and using his abilities defensively. The pressure is on the Ursa player to manage his aggression and item timings correctly, as a well-timed Decrepify can make his Enrage feel useless. Pugna’s ability to disrupt the bear's core game plan is what gives him a small advantage here.
