Pugna vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Seeing Warlock on the other team often brings Nether Ward to mind, but the interaction isn't one-sided. Pugna's Ward makes casting an expensive spell like Chaotic Offering incredibly dangerous for Warlock. The problem is, that same spell provides a long-range stun that will instantly cancel Pugna's Life Drain, which is his primary tool for survival and damage in a fight. On top of that, Warlock can use Fatal Bonds to punish Pugna for standing near his allies or his own Ward, spreading any damage taken right back.

This leads to a tense positioning battle across the whole game. Warlock is always looking for a flank or an angle to drop his Golem on Pugna before the Ward can be a factor. Pugna, in turn, has to play more cautiously, trying to establish his territory with the Ward ahead of time and forcing Warlock to engage on his terms. The outcome of a fight often depends entirely on which of them gets the jump on the other. It’s a true stalemate where both heroes hold the key to shutting the other one down.
