Clockwerk vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map and slowing down an enemy carry's farm is Clockwerk's whole job, but it's a job he can't effectively do against Spectre. The fundamental problem is that Clockwerk's main initiation combo, Hookshot into Power Cogs, simply doesn't hold Spectre in place. She can activate Spectral Dagger and phase right through the cogs to safety. This leaves Clockwerk stranded deep in enemy territory with his longest cooldown spent. Even if he does manage to trap her, Spectre is naturally durable and her Dispersion punishes the sustained damage from Battery Assault, often making the trade unfavorable for Clockwerk.

This dynamic plays out poorly for Clockwerk from the mid-game onward. His attempts to create space by picking off a farming Spectre usually fail, leaving him exposed and easily punished. Spectre can even use Haunt to turn his gank attempt into a full-blown teamfight that his own team might not be ready for. As Spectre gets her core items, she becomes an impossible target for him to burst down. Clockwerk is forced to either ignore the enemy carry entirely—crippling his impact—or risk feeding kills by trying to do the one thing his kit is designed for.
