Ringmaster vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Trying to control a teamfight with Ringmaster's hypnotic pull often runs into a problem against Shadow Shaman. A quick Hex or a well-aimed Shackle can instantly interrupt Ringmaster's setup, leaving his team without that key control spell. The lockdown from Shadow Shaman is particularly effective because it prevents Ringmaster from using his own escape tricks to reposition or save himself. Once caught, he's usually a high-priority target for the enemy team, and he has few ways to survive the full duration of a disable without help from his allies.

This dynamic puts a lot of pressure on Ringmaster's positioning throughout the game. Shadow Shaman is always looking for a pick-off to enable an objective push with his Mass Serpent Ward, and a support like Ringmaster is an ideal target. To play around this, Ringmaster has to use his traps defensively and stay on the fringes of fights, ready to use his escape preemptively. If he can avoid being the initial target, his area control can still be quite useful for disrupting the rest of Shaman's team. The matchup leans toward Shaman simply because his plan is more straightforward to execute.
