Rubick vs Ursa

How this matchup plays

Stealing any of Ursa’s spells gives Rubick something useful. While Earthshock is a decent setup tool, Overpower is the real prize, temporarily turning Rubick into a surprisingly effective physical damage threat. This dynamic puts the Ursa player in a difficult position; he has to use his abilities to be a threat, but every cast risks giving Rubick a powerful tool for turning the fight. Ursa's own offensive game plan directly fuels Rubick's potential for counter-play, which keeps the lane and later fights feeling very volatile and dependent on timing.

The matchup often comes down to a cat-and-mouse game of positioning. Ursa wants to get a Blink Dagger and explode on a poorly positioned Rubick before he can react. In response, Rubick has to play from the edges of the fight, using Telekinesis to interrupt Ursa’s charge on an ally and buy time to steal a spell. If Ursa gets the jump, Rubick is usually dead. If Rubick or his team can kite effectively and land that initial lift, Ursa’s aggression can be completely neutralized, leaving him exposed.
