Sand King vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Trying to save an ally with Cold Embrace feels weak against Sand King's full combo. The physical damage immunity does nothing to stop the magic damage from Epicenter, and the heal is rarely enough to survive the full channel. Sand King can also channel his ultimate safely inside Sand Storm, forcing the Winter Wyvern to have detection on hand just to attempt an interrupt with Winter's Curse. This forces Wyvern to play reactively and have specific items ready, giving SK a bit more control over how an initiation plays out.

This creates a tense mid-game stand-off. The Winter Wyvern player has to hold their ultimate, waiting for the moment Sand King commits with Blink Dagger. If they use it on anyone else, SK gets a free, devastating teamfight. However, a well-timed Burrowstrike can interrupt Winter's Curse before it even goes off. The matchup slightly favors Sand King because his tools for starting a fight are more reliable and on a shorter cooldown than Wyvern's primary tool for stopping him. It's a duel of cooldowns and reflexes that SK is better equipped for.
