Shadow Demon vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Picking a support with lockdown often brings you to these two heroes, but their kits fundamentally clash. Shadow Shaman's approach is direct: Hex and Shackles hold one hero in place for his team to kill. Shadow Demon's Disruption is meant as a setup or save, but using it on a Shackled ally just gives Shaman a free reset. The saved hero is still out of the fight, and Shaman can simply Hex them when they reappear from the banishment. Shadow Demon himself struggles to break the channel, as his spells are slower and more telegraphed than the instant lockdown coming his way.

This dynamic defines the game at all stages. In lane, Shadow Shaman provides a much clearer path to kills with his long disables. Later on, his whole game revolves around catching one target, which Shadow Demon can't reliably prevent. SD is a prime target for a Blink Hex, and Demonic Purge is often too slow to save himself or an ally from being chain-stunned. The best hope for Shadow Demon is to play from extreme range and hope a pre-emptive Disruption on an enemy carry turns the fight, but Shaman’s more proactive, single-minded plan usually finds its target first.
