Shadow Demon vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Trying to set up a kill on Sniper is a frustrating experience for Shadow Demon. Sniper's attack range is so long that he can sit well outside the effective distance of Disruption and Soul Catcher. Shadow Demon simply can't get close enough to land his core spells without putting himself in immense danger of being shot down. Even his longest-range tool, Shadow Poison, is too slow and takes too many stacks to be a real threat to a hero that can easily reposition. Meanwhile, Sniper can control huge areas with Shrapnel, making it dangerous for Shadow Demon to even find an angle.

This dynamic holds from the laning stage through the late game. Shadow Demon struggles to create kill pressure or offer protection against a hero he can't reach. In teamfights, his spells are often ineffective against Sniper's siege-tank style of play. Using Disruption on an ally getting focused is a temporary reprieve at best; Sniper will just switch targets. For Shadow Demon to have an impact, his team must provide all the initiation and gap-close needed to get on top of Sniper, leaving him to follow up on a fight that is already unfolding at an unfavorable range.
