Shadow Demon vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a Windranger after a Disruption setup often fails. She can usually activate Windrun as soon as the banish ends, dodging any follow-up physical damage that Soul Catcher was meant to amplify. This forces Shadow Demon to rely on his ultimate, Demonic Purge, to remove Windrun and enable a kill. Until that's available, Windranger has a reliable escape from his standard gank attempts, making it difficult for Shadow Demon's team to secure kills on her. The entire pattern of setting up with illusions and poison stacks is less effective against a target who can simply run away at top speed.

This dynamic makes Shadow Demon a tempting target for Windranger throughout the game. He's fragile and lacks mobility, making him vulnerable to a good Shackleshot or a quick burst from Focus Fire. Shadow Demon's best bet is to play defensively, using Disruption to save allies caught by Focus Fire rather than for aggression on Windranger herself. The game becomes about positioning; if Windranger finds Shadow Demon first, he's in trouble. If Shadow Demon's team can force Windrun and he's ready with Demonic Purge, the tables can turn. It leans in Windranger's favor because she's better equipped to start these engagements on her own terms.
