Shadow Shaman vs Techies

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can simply walk up and Hex the Techies is often a mistake. While Shadow Shaman’s lockdown is great for catching him, Techies excels at making the ground dangerous to approach. Pushing a tower with Mass Serpent Ward becomes a huge risk when the area is already seeded with Proximity Mines, as the stationary wards make for easy targets. This forces Shadow Shaman to be much more careful. On the other hand, a successful gank using Hex or Shackles can completely prevent Techies from establishing that map control in the first place, leaving him a non-factor.

The matchup often comes down to vision and positioning. Shadow Shaman wants to play proactively, finding Techies out of position to create an opening for a safe push with his wards. In response, Techies plays a patient, defensive game, trying to anticipate where Shaman’s team wants to go and making those areas too hazardous to contest. The game can easily swing based on whether Shadow Shaman lands his initiation, or if Techies successfully predicts the push and turns the Serpent Ward farm into a trap.
