Timbersaw vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Shutting down Timbersaw's game often starts by picking a Skywrath Mage against him. Timbersaw's survivability comes from Reactive Armor, which provides nothing against Skywrath's constant stream of magical damage. An Ancient Seal will amplify that damage and, more importantly, silence him, cutting off his Timber Chain escape. This leaves Timbersaw completely exposed to a full Mystic Flare combo without any way to run or fight back. He can't sustain through the harass, and he can't escape the kill attempt.

This brutal lane matchup often forces Timbersaw to abandon his lane, crippling his farm and delaying the items he needs to frontline for his team. A behind Timbersaw contributes very little to mid-game fights. The Timbersaw player must either beg for rotations to kill the Skywrath or find farm somewhere else, ceding map control. Meanwhile, Skywrath Mage is free to use his early power spike to secure kills across the map, snowballing the lead his team gained from this favorable matchup.
