Timbersaw vs Spirit Breaker

How this matchup plays

Farming the map becomes incredibly dangerous for Timbersaw from the first few minutes of the game. Spirit Breaker's Charge of Darkness provides vision and a long-duration stun, setting up kills on a hero who typically likes to play aggressively in lane and in the jungle. Any attempt Timbersaw makes to escape with Timber Chain is easily interrupted by Charge or a Greater Bash proc. Furthermore, Spirit Breaker brings significant magic damage to a fight, bypassing the high armor Timbersaw gets from Reactive Armor. Timbersaw's entire kit is based on mobility and attrition, both of which Spirit Breaker directly counters with his lockdown.

This dynamic forces Timbersaw to play passively, delaying the core items he needs to become a threat. He is often forced to buy an early Linken's Sphere or other defensive items, which cripples his mid-game impact. Spirit Breaker gets to set the pace of the game, repeatedly ganking Timbersaw and preventing him from building any momentum. For Timbersaw to have a chance, his team must provide excellent vision and be ready to counter-initiate, but even then, a well-timed Nether Strike in a teamfight can isolate and burst him before he can contribute.
