Silencer vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Picking Venomancer means betting you can get a big Poison Nova off to set up a teamfight win. Silencer is a direct challenge to that plan. Global Silence, held in reserve, can completely nullify the follow-up damage your team needs after Poison Nova has been cast, leaving enemies on low health but perfectly able to fight back against a silenced team. Even in lane, Venomancer’s desire to constantly cast Plague Wards and Venomous Gale plays right into Arcane Curse, which punishes heroes for using their spells frequently and drains resources that Veno can’t afford to lose.

Still, the advantage for Silencer isn't overwhelming. The damage from Poison Nova itself isn't stopped by a silence, so a well-placed one still forces a reaction. A smart Venomancer will try to bait out the Global Silence or fight when it's on cooldown, which is a very long window. He also provides constant map pressure and vision with his Plague Wards, an area where Silencer has little impact. The game often becomes a test of patience, revolving around which hero uses their ultimate more effectively to counter the other's initiation.
