Skywrath Mage vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst Spectre is a losing proposition for Skywrath Mage. Spectre's Dispersion reflects damage back at her attacker, so a full Mystic Flare combo can easily result in Skywrath killing himself, especially against a Blade Mail. Even if he survives his own assault, Spectre is durable enough to withstand the burst and turn the fight. More importantly, Spectre's Haunt allows her to jump on an isolated Skywrath from anywhere on the map. He is too fragile to survive being singled out and has no escape mechanism to deal with that kind of global initiation.

This forces Skywrath to play reactively and cautiously for most of the game. He can’t safely push out lanes or ward deep, because the threat of a solo death from Haunt is always present. His team has to play more grouped to protect him, which cedes map control and gives Spectre the space she needs to farm. While a Skywrath can bully Spectre in the very early lane, her ability to recover and eventually dominate the map by picking him off makes the matchup heavily favor her as the game progresses.
