Skywrath Mage vs Templar Assassin

How this matchup plays

Slowing down a Templar Assassin's farm is the core idea for Skywrath Mage. Refraction is powerful, but it blocks a set number of attacks. Skywrath's constant spam of low-cooldown spells, especially a full Mystic Flare, can burn through all of the Refraction charges very quickly. This leaves Templar Assassin vulnerable to follow-up damage and forces her to play much more cautiously in lane. The trade-off is that Skywrath has no escape mechanism. If TA gets on top of him with a Meld strike, his low health pool means he'll die almost instantly, often before his spells are even off cooldown.

The game becomes a race against the clock. Early on, Skywrath Mage can often bully the lane and delay the key item timings that Templar Assassin needs to start hunting. This creates space for his own team to operate. Once TA gets her Blink Dagger, however, the tables turn. She can now initiate from the shadows and instantly delete a poorly positioned Skywrath. This forces the Skywrath player to rely heavily on good vision and positioning with his team, making him a much more reactive target instead of the aggressor he was in the first few minutes.
