Skywrath Mage vs Tusk

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other is a bet on who gets to act first. Tusk is built to close gaps with Snowball and delete a single fragile target, which describes Skywrath Mage perfectly. A successful initiation from Tusk is almost always a death sentence for the Skywrath, who has no innate escape or durability. The reverse is equally true, however. Skywrath's Ancient Seal completely disables Tusk, preventing him from using any of his abilities to start a fight or to get away. A silenced Tusk is a very easy target for Mystic Flare, and he often melts before the silence even wears off.

This creates a tense standoff in teamfights. The Tusk player will constantly be looking for a flank or a smoke gank to get the jump on Skywrath Mage. Vision control is everything for him. Meanwhile, the Skywrath player has to position extremely carefully, staying far behind his cores and holding his silence for the moment Tusk reveals himself. Later on, Tusk often builds a Black King Bar to become immune to the silence, while Skywrath might buy a Force Staff or Ghost Scepter to survive the initial charge. The outcome often depends entirely on which hero's plan works out first.
