Slardar vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Picking a melee core into a Venomancer can be a painful experience, but Slardar has a unique way of dealing with the problem. Venomancer relies on slowing heroes to a crawl with his spells and Plague Wards, kiting them while damage over time does its work. Slardar's Guardian Sprint lets him power through much of that slow, giving him a window to get on top of Venomancer and land a Slithereen Crush. Once Corrosive Haze is applied, Venomancer's low durability becomes a huge liability, making him an easy target to burst down if Slardar can successfully close the gap.

This creates a tense cat-and-mouse game across the map. A Slardar with a Blink Dagger is a constant threat to a Venomancer who is warding or pushing a lane alone. The pressure is on Venomancer to maintain good positioning and use his wards for vision to avoid getting initiated on. If Slardar misjudges his engage and gets caught by a Venomous Gale after his Sprint ends, he becomes an easy kill himself, especially since he takes extra damage during the sprint. Slardar has the advantage, but a mistake is easily punished.
