Slardar vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Trying to kite a melee hero with Windrun is core to playing Windranger, but Slardar has tools that cut right through it. Corrosive Haze provides vision and armor reduction, meaning she can't juke into the trees and her evasion does nothing to stop allies from hitting her with spells. His Slithereen Crush is also an area-of-effect stun that lands regardless of evasion. On the flip side, Windranger isn't helpless. A well-placed Shackleshot can stop a sprinting Slardar from ever reaching her, and her attack range lets her chip away at him from a distance if he can't close the gap.

The matchup really depends on who gets the jump. Before Slardar gets a Blink Dagger, Windranger can often control the engagement, staying at a safe range. After he gets his Blink, the pressure is on her. A Slardar who successfully blinks and stuns her can usually secure the kill with his team before she can react. This creates a tense dynamic where Slardar is constantly hunting for an opening, and Windranger is forced to position very carefully on the edge of fights, waiting for him to commit his abilities elsewhere before she can safely contribute.
