Sniper vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Walking up to a creep wave as Viper often means taking free hits before you can even get in range to retaliate. Sniper's extreme attack range makes it nearly impossible for Viper to apply his own slows and corrosive damage. While Viper's kit is designed to control and bully opponents, he has no way to close the gap on his own. He's forced to absorb punishment from Headshot and Shrapnel just to contest last hits, putting him on the back foot from the very start of the lane.

This advantage only grows as the game progresses. Viper is a hero who needs to be in the middle of the fight, but he has no innate mobility to reach a well-positioned Sniper. This forces him to rely on items like a Blink Dagger or hope his team can dive the backline for him. More often than not, Viper ends up being a slow-moving target, kited and picked off from a safe distance long before he can cast Viper Strike. Sniper, meanwhile, can comfortably sit behind his front line and dismantle the enemy team.
