Spectre vs Ursa

How this matchup plays

Thinking Ursa can burst down Spectre is a common trap. The reality is the opposite: Spectre’s kit is designed to punish exactly what Ursa wants to do. All the focused, high-speed physical damage from Overpower and Fury Swipes gets partially reflected by Dispersion. Since Ursa has to stand on top of his target, he takes a massive amount of that damage back to his own face. He often ends up dying to his own burst long before Spectre does, especially once she has an item or two to survive his initial onslaught.

Ursa’s only real window is the very early laning stage, but his kill threat is limited. Once Spectre gets a few levels, the matchup flips. An Ursa who blinks onto Spectre will likely kill himself on her passives. Later on, Spectre’s Haunt makes it impossible for Ursa to protect his own backline. He can’t effectively find and pin down the real Spectre, and if he tries to man-fight her, he loses. His whole game plan of isolating and executing a single hero is completely nullified, forcing him to either ignore the main threat or suicide trying to deal with her.
