Spectre vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Trying to focus Spectre down in a late-game fight is a nightmare for Viper's team. Everything Viper does, from his basic attacks to Viper Strike, deals damage over time, and every single tick of that damage gets partially reflected by Dispersion. This punishes not only Viper but his entire team for trying to kill their intended target. While Nethertoxin can disable this passive, Spectre can often walk out of the area or simply Haunt to a different target, leaving Viper's main countermeasure wasted. Spectre doesn't need to directly target Viper; she wins by making it painful for his team to even fight her.

Viper will almost always have a stronger early game and can make laning miserable for Spectre. The entire game for Viper's team becomes a race against the clock to convert that early lead into objectives and a win. Spectre’s job is to survive, find safe farm, and wait for her key items. Once she has them, the dynamic flips completely. She can use Haunt to pick her engagements, often jumping on Viper himself, who has no real escape from a determined Spectre illusion. He can slow her, but he can't get away.
