Spectre vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Drafting Warlock into a late-game Spectre means accepting a huge personal risk. Warlock's entire game plan revolves around landing a big Chaotic Offering and linking enemies with Fatal Bonds, which requires enemies to be somewhat grouped. Spectre completely subverts this by using Haunt to instantly jump on a single, isolated hero in the backline. As a slow support with no escape mechanism, Warlock is often the ideal target. The pure damage from Desolate melts him the moment he's caught alone, turning his desire for a big teamfight into a personal nightmare.

This dynamic dictates how the entire mid and late game is played. The Warlock is forced to play extremely cautiously, often needing his teammates to babysit him so he doesn't get picked off before a fight even starts. Any attempt to place a deep ward or push a lane alone can result in an instant death. For the Spectre player, this is a clear path to victory: farm up, identify Warlock as the weak link, and use Haunt to eliminate him at the start of every objective fight, crippling the enemy's teamfight potential before they can even drop the Golem.
