Spirit Breaker vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Seeing Spirit Breaker charge a Troll Warlord might look like a guaranteed kill, but it rarely plays out that simply. The success of the gank relies on Spirit Breaker and his allies bursting Troll down during the initial chain of stuns. If Troll survives that lockdown, he can activate Battle Trance for a massive attack speed and lifesteal steroid. This allows him to stand and fight, often healing back all the damage he took. The fight becomes a race between Spirit Breaker’s burst damage and Troll’s ability to survive and turn with his ultimate.

This makes the matchup extremely dependent on timing and items. Early on, Spirit Breaker has a clear advantage, able to punish a farming Troll before he gets defensive tools. A farmed Troll Warlord with a Black King Bar, however, can often pop it as the Charge connects, ignore the stuns completely, and win the resulting man-fight. Troll’s melee Whirling Axes, with their miss chance, also severely hamper Spirit Breaker’s damage output. The game often boils down to which hero’s team can better execute their plan first.
