Storm Spirit vs Tidehunter

How this matchup plays

Zipping onto a target near Tidehunter often feels like a trap. Storm Spirit relies on his mobility to get in, secure a kill, and get out, but Ravage shuts that entire plan down with a massive area-of-effect stun. Even trying to burst Tidehunter himself is a losing battle. Kraken Shell makes him incredibly durable and passively purges the slows from Overload, letting him turn and fight. Gush is also a huge problem, pinning Storm down with a long-duration slow and armor reduction that makes him an easy target for the rest of Tide's team.

This dynamic forces the Storm Spirit player into a passive role. Instead of initiating fights, he has to wait for Tidehunter to use Ravage first, giving up all tempo. A patient Tide can simply hold his ultimate, knowing its threat alone zones Storm out of the engagement. This pressure often forces Storm into an early defensive item, delaying his core damage and mobility progression. Meanwhile, Tide is free to lead his team, using Anchor Smash to reduce carry damage and setting up kills, knowing his biggest threat is effectively neutralized.
