How this matchup plays

Dealing with Venomancer’s constant damage over time pushes you to decide between sustain or all-in burst. Sven is the all-in option. His goal is to find Venomancer, land a Storm Hammer, and delete him with God's Strength before the poison really starts to matter. Venomancer’s entire plan is to prevent this with slows and his Plague Wards. Sven’s Warcry offers a brief window to shrug off a slow and connect, but if he gets kited after that, he's in trouble. Venomancer is fragile, so it’s a race to see if he can apply his damage before Sven can apply his.

This matchup is all about key item timings and who gets the jump. Before Sven gets a Blink Dagger, Venomancer can often control the lane and make farming difficult. Once Sven can initiate from out of vision, though, any positional mistake from Venomancer becomes a death sentence. Later in the game, a Sven with Black King Bar active can largely ignore Venomancer’s kiting potential and run straight at the back lines. The fight is decided by whether Venomancer can land a good Poison Nova from a safe spot before Sven gets on top of him.
