Tidehunter vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Trying to kite a Tidehunter can be frustrating for a Winter Wyvern. His Kraken Shell regularly dispels the slow from Arctic Burn, letting him close the distance or simply walk away from her harass. In larger fights, Ravage provides a massive, instantaneous stun that Wyvern can do little to prevent. While Cold Embrace can save an ally from follow-up physical damage, the target is still stunned and vulnerable to magic. This creates a situation where Winter Wyvern is often trying to salvage a fight after it has already started on Tidehunter's terms, which can be a difficult challenge.

This dynamic often allows Tidehunter to farm his core items, like Blink Dagger, with relative safety. Once he's ready to fight, his team can more reliably apply pressure and force engagements. The burden tends to fall on the Winter Wyvern to have excellent positioning and land a clutch Winter's Curse on Tidehunter's allies after he initiates. A well-timed Curse can still turn the fight around, but it's a reactive play against a very direct form of initiation. Tidehunter usually gets to set the tempo, giving his team a small but tangible advantage.
