How this matchup plays

Fighting Ursa head-on is typically a death sentence due to how quickly his damage ramps with Fury Swipes. Troll Warlord, however, is built for this exact kind of fight. When Ursa commits with Overpower, Troll can activate Battle Trance to lock on and sustain through the initial burst with massive lifesteal. The miss chance from Whirling Axes is also a huge problem for Ursa, as it directly slows down how fast he can stack his damage. Ursa’s plan relies on overwhelming a target before they can respond, and Troll’s kit fundamentally denies that strategy.

This dynamic gives Troll Warlord control over key objectives. Ursa can't safely take Roshan if Troll is alive and nearby, because Troll can simply walk into the pit and win the duel. As the game progresses, Ursa is forced into a difficult position, needing his team to help kite or disable Troll during Battle Trance. Meanwhile, Troll is happy to force these confrontations, knowing he holds the advantage in a direct man-fight. Ursa has to play perfectly around the map, while Troll can often run straight at his counterpart and come out ahead.
