How this matchup plays

Facing off against all that stacked poison is a miserable experience. The difference is how it's applied. Viper is built to be a single-target assassin, layering his slows and corrosive damage to melt one hero. His own passive magic resistance helps him shrug off the kind of damage Venomancer wants to spread around. Venomancer relies on controlling areas with Plague Wards and hitting multiple heroes with his ultimate. Viper can often simply run past the wards, tank the poison, and focus all of his damage directly onto the fragile Venomancer to bring him down first.

This means Viper frequently controls the engagement, especially in the laning phase or in mid-game ganks. A well-timed Viper Strike is usually enough to secure a kill on Venomancer before his spells can have a major impact. For Venomancer to win, he needs to play carefully from the back lines, using his team as a shield. If he can successfully land a big Poison Nova and escape, he can still have a huge effect on the fight. The advantage for Viper is only slight because his game plan of running at a single hero isn't always possible in a chaotic teamfight.
