Viper vs Zeus

How this matchup plays

Trading spells in the mid lane often comes down to range and mana efficiency. Zeus can use his long-range abilities to secure last hits and harass from a distance, staying well outside the threat range of Viper's poisons. While Viper has innate magic resistance that helps him endure some of the damage, he struggles to apply his own corrosive slows and damage over time without overextending. Zeus can consistently chip away at Viper's health, forcing him to play more defensively than he would like, which can negate much of Viper's intended lane pressure.

As the game progresses, this dynamic continues in teamfights. Viper wants to find a key target and lock them down with Viper Strike, but Zeus prefers to stay far in the back, blanketing the entire fight with damage. A well-positioned Zeus is extremely difficult for Viper to reach, even with a Blink Dagger. Viper's best chance is to survive the initial magical burst and close the distance with his team, but Zeus’s ability to kite and deal damage from safety gives him a consistent, if small, advantage throughout the game.
