Ancient Apparition + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Stacking Ancient Apparition’s Ice Vortex with Skywrath Mage’s Ancient Seal looks good on paper. The idea is to amplify Mystic Flare’s damage and secure a kill. The problem is that neither hero provides the hard lockdown needed to guarantee a target stays in the damage zone. Cold Feet can be broken easily, and Skywrath himself has no stun. This leaves them relying entirely on a third teammate for setup. Without that reliable initiation, their big magical burst combo is inconsistent, and they end up using their spells at inefficient times or on separate targets.

Across the game, this duo creates a very fragile backline that’s vulnerable to divers. Both heroes need similar defensive items and safe positioning to be effective, but can't really help each other survive. If your team already has a durable front line that can initiate and hold enemies down, then Ancient Apparition and Skywrath Mage can pour on the damage from afar. If the game requires supports to create space, save allies, or provide physical presence, this pairing feels weak and often struggles to find its footing.
