Anti-Mage + Bristleback

Why this works

Thinking these two cores can simply run over the enemy together often leads to disappointment. Bristleback wants to group up and fight from the very start, using Quill Spray to create chaos and draw attention. At the same time, Anti-Mage needs to avoid those early engagements, prioritizing his own farm to acquire the items he needs to come online. This fundamental conflict in their timings means they are rarely on the same page. The space Bristleback creates is often for a team playing with four heroes, as Anti-Mage is busy on the other side of the map.

In practice, the game plan feels disjointed. Both heroes require significant farm and offer very little innate lockdown to set up kills for each other. An enemy facing a Bristleback can often walk away, and a target Anti-Mage blinks on can be saved if there's no follow-up stun from the team. This duo relies heavily on their supports to provide control and bridge the gap between their different power spikes. Without that, they function as two separate, greedy engines, competing for resources until one hopes the other has created enough of an advantage to win.
