Axe + Tusk

Why this works

Pairing these two heroes often seems like a great idea for setting up kills, but their kits have a lot of overlap. Both Axe and Tusk want to be the primary initiator who jumps on an enemy and locks them down. The problem is their timings are different. Axe wants to blink in for an instant Berserker's Call on multiple targets. Tusk wants to roll in with Snowball, which has a delay. If Axe goes first, Tusk is often still arriving and can't add much. If Tusk goes first, he might scatter the enemies, making it harder for Axe to land a good Call.

During the laning stage, their combined aggression can work for simple ganks. As the game moves into five-on-five teamfights, however, the redundancy becomes a liability. A successful Axe call doesn't need a follow-up stun from Snowball or trapping from Ice Shards; the targets are already disabled and grouped up. Tusk is left trying to add damage or use his spells in ways that don't really help what Axe is already doing. Instead of complementing each other, they end up trying to do the same job, which leaves gaps in the team's overall strategy.
