Bane + Drow Ranger

Why this works

Locking down a target with Fiend's Grip seems like the perfect setup for a carry like Drow Ranger. The idea is that Bane holds someone in place for her to attack freely. In reality, the execution is tricky. Bane has to channel that spell, making him a stationary target, and its cast range can force him into a position that draws other enemies closer. This can easily break Drow's Marksmanship bonus if a second enemy gets near her. A Nightmare setup is also fragile, as an accidental attack from Drow will wake the target immediately.

The success of this pairing really depends on who the enemy team picks. If the opponents lack multiple heroes that can dive the back line, Bane’s control over a single hero can be enough to let Drow Ranger snowball through the mid-game. Against smarter drafts, however, the enemy will simply send another hero to attack Drow while Bane is occupied with his channel. This forces a trade at best and often leaves Drow vulnerable, as the combo doesn't create the large, safe area she truly needs to dominate a teamfight.
